Our Philosophy On Wellness

Wellness is an active process that necessitates personal responsibility and self-stewardship. As your partner in wellness, we guide and assist clients in a holistic integration of physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. We strive to honor each individual’s capacity for self-knowledge and utilize scientifically backed, evidence-based strategies with the goal of supporting clients to improve overall functional capacity, mitigate the harmful effects of stress, and increase longevity from a natural state of wellness.

“A true healer does not heal you; she simply reflects back to you your innate capacity to heal. She is a reflector, or a loving transparency. A true teacher does not teach you; she does not see you as inherently seperate from her, or less than her. She simply reflects back your own inner knowing, and reminds you of the vastness of your being. She is a mirror, a signpost”

Modalities We Offer

Stretch Therapy

Stretch therapy, also known as assisted stretching, is a form of facilitated stretching in which a trained practitioner provides hands-on guidance through specific stretches to improve range of motion and correct dysfunctional muscle groups. Techniques include static and dynamic stretching, proprioceptive nerumuscular facilitation (PNF stretching), and active assisted stretching. These techniques improve blood and lymphatic flow, reduce nerve pain, provide myofacial release, aid in the production of synovial fluid which reduces joint stiffness, and improve the adaptive capacity of connective tissue structures.

Yoga

Yoga is a holisitic system that unites mind, body, and spirit. The physical practice of asanas (yoga movement/postures) improves flexibility, strength, and balance while connecting the body, breath, and mind. We utilize a variety of styles from traditional Hatha and Vinyasa to Yin and Restorative Yoga. Some styles create energy and others use up energy while imparting lasting benefits to muscles, connective tissues, ligaments, joints, and tendons.

Meditation

Meditation is an ancient mind-body practice with varying forms practiced worldwide. Its benefits are now scientifically supported through diagnostic techniques such as EEG and fMRI which show it positively impacts the brain and improves overall mental health. Key benefits include decreasing syptoms of anxiety and depression, improving cognition, and supporting healthy heart funtion. We utilize body-centered meditation, mindfulness meditation, and meditation with movement.

Guided Imagery

Guided Imagery is a type of mind-body intervention used for pain management, goal setting, and stimulating the body's healing response. It uses all five senses and conscious harnessing of the imagination in an immersive mental experience. It promotes positive physiological responses and fosters a natural connection to the inner wisdom of the unconscious mind.

Breathwork

Breathwork is a broad term that refers to conscious intervention on the breathing process to optimize physical and emotional well-being. Breathwork can be traced back to yogic pranayama practices and ancient quigong breathing exercises. More modern methods are commonly associated with the work of endurance athlete Wim Hof and Stanford Neurobiology professor Andrew Huberman. Our approach is heavily influenced by the Breathology Method of four time world freediving champion and multiple Guiness World Record holder Stig Severinsen (MSc, PhD).This approach combines traditional breathwork practices for connecting body and mind while balancing the nervous system to equip clients with the skills to relax on demand.

Mat Pilates

Mat Pilates is a sustained series of exercises that build abdominal control and muscle tone. Mat pilates is done without the assistance of a reformer machine and utilizes small props such as the over ball and swiss ball. Beginner series offer an excellent pathway to correcting posture, stabilizing muscles, and improving functional movements. Advanced mat pilates is often considered the most challenging of all pilates and allows for a physically intense approach to muscle strengthening while deepening the connection between mind and body.

Barre

Modern barre workouts began growing in popularity in the early 2000s and there are numerous franchises today each with their own approach. We utilize the original barre techniques developed in the 1950s by modern dancer, Lotte Berk. After working with an orthopedic surgeon to recover from a spinal injury Lotte developed a system that combined ballet barre technique with rehabilitative therapy. This is a highly accessible system that builds lean muscles and improves balance, flexibility, and body awareness.

Meet your wellness partner

Krissy Rector, MPH received her undergraduate degree from The University of Georgia where she graduated with honors from the Psychology track within the department of Comparative Literature and Intercultural Studies. She then earned her Master’s in Public Health from the Keck School of Medicine at The University of Southern California where she was awarded the Culture and Health Equity Scholar Distinction for her contribution to culturally tailored, trauma-informed interventions for Oglala Lakota Nation youth. She completed her graduate practicum at the Southern California Evidence Review Center where she worked as a research assistant and contributing author on a systematic review of Interventions to Improve Care of Bereaved Persons for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality.

Krissy came to mind-body practices first through the arts and then through the sciences. Her professional career began in the arts as an actress/singer/dancer. She was exposed to somatic education through actor training utilizing the Feldenkrais Method and Alexander Technique for cultivating presence and freedom of movement. Shortly after, her dance instructors introduced her to Yoga and Pilates as complementary methods to support the body’s ability to handle the physical demands of performance. This discovery of the power of mind-body modalities to strengthen physical systems, increase access to creative flow states, and foster authentic performances led to her personal pursuit of integrative wellness knowledge and the desire to share that with others.

Krissy’s approach to mind-body medicine reflects her path as artist, social scientist, and public health practitioner. She worked as a dance teacher for 10+ years and has completed advanced training in each modality offered at Antidote Vitality. She holds professional and advanced professional certificates in music from Berklee College of Music, and is certified in barre and yoga. As a lifelong learner, Krissy is always expanding her knowledge base and loves finding new ways to assist others in their journeys to authentic living, vitality, and wellness.
